DANCE CATEGORIES
CLASSICAL BALLET
A performance consisting of ballet technique and incorporating traditional classical movements and attire. Competitors in this category SHOULD NOT be wearing pointe shoes.
VARIATION/POINTE
A variation solo from a classical ballet or a performance consisting of ballet technique and incorporating traditional classical movements that must be performed in pointe shoes.
NEOCLASSICAL
A performance consisting primarily of Classical technique & movement that includes a more minimalistic aesthetic from a Classical Ballet.
DEMI CHARACTER
A performance consisting primarily of Classical technique with a storyline from beginning to end. Gestures, facial expressions, and movement is used to tell the story.
JAZZ
A performance consisting of jazz technique; kicks, turns and jumps.
TAP
A performance consisting primarily of tap technique.
SONG & TAP
A performance containing both singing and tap technique.
LYRICAL
A performance consisting of jazz or ballet technique expressing the lyrics of the song.
ACROBATICS
A performance demonstrating a combination of control, strength and flexibility, through balances, contortion and tumbling tricks.
SONG & DANCE
A performance containing both singing and dancing of any style.
MUSICAL THEATRE
A performance featuring any style of dance from a Broadway Show, Movie or Television Show.
HIP HOP
A performance demonstrating street dance that incorporates style and/or funk choreography.
CONTEMPORARY
A performance that incorporates a fusion of modern dance techniques from Graham, Humphrey-Weidman, Horton or the Bartenieff Fundamentals.
OWN CHOREOGRAPHY
Performers can showcase any style of dance. This must be choreographed independently by the registered dancer.
FOLK/ETHNIC
Performances which are to a significant degree bound by tradition with strong cultural roots.
POM
A performance using pom-poms incorporating precise and definite movements.
OPEN DANCE
A performance demonstrating any style of dance or a combination of dance styles.
VOCAL CATEGORIES
CONTEMPORARY BALLAD
Singers must choose a song from the contemporary repertoire in a ballad style.
CONTEMPORARY POP
Singers must choose a song from the contemporary repertoire in a upbeat style.
CONTEMPORARY MUSIC THEATRE
Singers must choose a character song from a stage Musical and demonstrate qualities appropriate to the selected song. There is NO restrictions with Musical age and/or year.
COUNTRY
Singers must choose a contemporary or traditional country or western song, which must be performed in a country style.
R&B/JAZZ
Singers must choose a song within the Jazz or RNB genre. This can be either Ballad or Uptempo.
ORIGINAL
The competitor must perform a song that they have written themselves.
ACTING/MONOLOGUEALL
Performers must perform a monologue or scene from a movie or stage musical. ALL movies, monologues and stage musicals accepted in this section. STRICTLY NO MUSIC.
OPEN VOCAL
Singers can choose ANY style of song to perform. (E.g – Musical theatre, classical, country, pop, ballad et.)
